How do I get rid of these scars on my face?

My acne has left me with quite a few noticeable scars. I have been told a few times that these scars will never go away. But then my dermatologist said that there is some sort of surgery or treatment or something where you can peel the skin from your face and rid you skin of the scars. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it worth it? What have you done to get rid of acne scars?
